Abstract: Vanua Levu has high production potential for Pongamia oil with approximately 58,897 ha of unutilized lands available for developing Pongamia plantations. The total available land area has possible production capacity of approximately 488,834,780.40 litres Pongamia oil and 675,154,815.0 litres of hybrid fuel. A suitable small scale hybrid fuel production project from 154 ha of existing Pongamia farms has a potential of producing 1,278,173.02 litres of crude Pongamia oil and 1,765,350.38 litres of Pongamia – ethanol hybrid fuel. The feasibility study undertaken using sensitivity analysis shows a positive net present value and a benefit-cost ratio greater than 1 at all the discount rates up to 5%, which indicates that the project is economically feasible at a capital investment cost of $1,444,998.52.
