Abstract: The present study uses the concepts of diaspora and transnationalism to undertake an empirical study of the experiences of transnational marriages among Indo-Fijians. Many Indo-Fijians are part of the global Indian diaspora. Many have undertaken a secondary migration to Pacific Rim countries from where they retain close social, cultural and economic links with Fiji. This study emphasizes the improtance of applying a transnational lens in understanding how socio-cultural activities in the form of marriage alliances take place between Hindu Indo-Fijian brides in Fiji and Hindu Indo-Fijian grooms residing in Australia.
