Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine if there is a need for educational assessment reforms in primary schools through evaluating the policies, teachers and students’ views and data collected at the case study schools. A qualitative research method was used to collect data on the assessment from ten different schools where teachers provided necessary information through an open-ended questionnaire. Research instruments, such as questionnaire, interviews and ‘talanoa sessions’ were used to illicit information on the need for reforms in educational assessment. To strengthen the validity of the data collected, document analysis was also carried out.
