Using semi-structured interviews and observation, the study found that the women persevered through family support, team support, sport benefits, FFA support and promotion of soccer in schools. Despite these sources of support, the participants experienced numerous inhibitors: financial difficulties, poor media representation, discrimination and gender inequality, gender stereotypes, homophobia and labelling, lack of female leadership and role models and lacked few female friendly spaces to play the game.
