Abstract: Three studies were carried out to investigate the abundance, damage and control ofbroad mites (Polyphagotarsonemus latus Banks) on sweet pepper (Capsicumannuum L.) plants in Samoa. The first study was conducted in six sweet pepperfarms on Upolu to assess the abundance of broad mites, farmers’ knowledge of thepest and the control practices used for broad mites while the second and third studieswere conducted at the University of the South Pacific, School of Agriculture andFood Technology, Samoa. The second study investigated the susceptibility of threecommonly sold sweet pepper varieties while the third study assessed the efficacy of potential active ingredients for the control of broad mite under laboratory and tunnel house conditions.
