| | Growth comparison study of black-lip pearl oysters, Pinctada margaritifera (Linnaeus, 1758) at different depths in Savusavu Bay, Fiji Islands Author: Carreon, John Adams Gasaga Institution: The University of the South Pacific Award: M.Sc. Marine Science Subject: Pinctada Fiji | Savusavu | Growth, Pearl oysters | Fiji | Savusavu | Growth Date: 2019 Call No.: Pac QL 430 .7 .P77 C37 2019 BRN: 1380908 Copyright:40-60% of this thesis may be copied without the authors written permission Abstract: The second chapter of this study involved the dorsoventral measurement (DVM), anteroposterior measurement (APM) and shell thickness (T) of P. margaritifera which were measured and the mean at different length intervals was calculated to determine the general trend in growth and shape of the shell. Results revealed that P. margaritifera APM:DVM ratio values increase with consecutive length intervals. The T:DVM decreased steadily which suggested that nacre deposition was steady with age. The length interval in which unity of APM:DVM was attained was 125 – 130 mm. It was inferred that culture conditions may have significant effect on morphology of the shell which was comparable to other studies on members of the genus Pinctada.
